Following the Attorney-General’s botched asset freeze of Yorgen Fenech, the Nationalist Party has renewed calls for the Attorney-General to resign. The Opposition party described the situation as “grave” and “serious” and have also condemned the Labour government’s money-laundering law which made it more difficult for prosecutors to successfully issue asset freezes.
In a brief statement to The Times of Malta, the Office of the Attorney-General said that “We would like to assure you that our office is committed to the pursuit of justice, a goal we believe is shared by all– Attorney general’s office”.ย
The same prosecutor who botched Yorgen Fenech’s asset freeze, is also the same prosecutor who botched Charles Mercieca’s bribery case (Charles Mercieca is Yorgen Fenech’s lawyer).
