After five months of relentless fundraising, marked by two gruelling endurance races–the 5x Ironman completed in 92 hours and the DECA triathlon in 264 hours–an ambitious project to support animal welfare has come to a close.
Dubbed Project 100, Fabio Spiteri’s campaign has successfully raised €74,400. These funds will soon be distributed in cash, medicine, and food supplies to animal shelters across Malta and Gozo, as well as to dedicated individuals who work around the clock to care for abused and abandoned animals.
The Real Animal Rights Foundation provided invaluable support for the campaign, helping to facilitate donations. The fundraiser attracted widespread support from individuals moved by the plight of animals and the pressing need to support shelter operations.
In addition to expressing gratitude to everyone who donated, Fabio Spiteri underscored the urgent issue of animal abuse and abandonment in Malta, which has left many animal shelters at breaking point. Rising operational costs and an influx of animals in need have placed tremendous strain on these facilities, creating a critical need for ongoing support.
While this season’s goal of €100,000 was not fully met, plans for next year are already underway, with a goal of meeting and exceeding the target through a new challenge–the Double DECA.
The Maltese Herald contacted Fabio for a comment on the success and impact of Project 100.
