Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis says European policy on Russia has been a strategic disaster comparable to Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement to Hitler

Following Donald Trump’s victory of the US presidential election, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs published a statement condemning Europe’s policy on Russia which he compares with Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement to Adolf Hitler. Hitler was allowed to annex the Sudetenland of the Czech Republic by the Allies with the treaty of Munich signed on 30th Septemberย  1938. Less than one year later on the 1st September 1939, Hitler invaded Poland.

Gabrielius Landsbergis argued that Chamberlain’s policy may have been due to naรฏvetรฉ, but since Europe has already lived through this mistake, its policy on Russia today is either “cynical or stupid”.

The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs also condemned Western leaders who hold international and diplomatic talks about Ukraine and Russia without Ukraine being present while stressing that the current “peace agreements” being offered to Ukraine will condemn millions of people to misery and Russian occupation.

Lithuania, along with the Baltic states and Poland, is currently fortifying its borders against Russia.
