Afghan teenage girl commits suicide in Iran after being expelled for breaking the Islamic dress code

Arezoo Khavari, an Afghan girl who fled to Iran after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, committed suicide after being expelled from Iran for violating Islamic dress codes. She violated the dress code for wearing jeans and not wearing a hijab.

Afghanistan, now ruled by the Taliban, has reintroduced a multitude of laws reducing women to the status of slaves to their male relatives. Among the recently re-imposed restrictions is a rule prohibiting women from speaking to each other in public, forcing them to communicate only with men in public settings.

Last week in Iran, an Iranian woman was detained after she protested against the Islamic dress code by taking her clothes off at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran.
