According to press reports, Marco Rubio is to be named US Secretary of State: Elise Stefanik named as US Ambassador the United Nations

Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a former critic of incoming President Donald Trump, is set to be named U.S. Secretary of State, according to press reports. Rubio was known as one of Trump’s fiercest Republican critics, previously accusing him of being a “con-artist,” “self-centered,” “incompetent,” and “weak on foreign policy”.

Rubio is known as a Republican hawk and neoconservative, who strongly advocated a pro-Ukrainian stance aimed at defeating Russia on the battlefield. He is also firmly pro-Israel, opposed a ceasefire in Gaza, and has supported war against Iran should it acquire nuclear missiles.

Born in Miami, Florida, to Cuban parents who fled the Fulgencio Batista regime, Rubio’s background has heavily influenced his strong stance against authoritarian regimes, particularly in Latin America. He is also a native Spanish speaker.

Despite his historically hardline position against dictatorial regimes and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rubio has recently softened his stance, now supporting negotiations with Russia to end its war on Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Elise Stefanik as Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik is also strongly pro-Israel and recently misattributed a video of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in Amsterdam to Arabs.
