Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has announced that the Israeli government will go ahead with its plans to annex the West Bank of Palestine and seek US recognition for its annexation of Palestinian lands. Finance Minister Smotrich has long advocated for the full annexation of the West Bank in Palestine and recently said that this will now be possible thanks to Donald Trump’s administration.
In a recent press conference, he announced that he has already given instructions to government entities to begin this process. The translation of his comments is provided below.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanahu has appointed a new Israeli Ambassador to the US following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections. The new ambassador, Yechiel Leiter is an illegal settler and member of a far-right Israeli political group. He will be replacing the more moderate ambassador Michael Herzog.
Prior to being elected in office, Donald Trump met Benjamin Netanyahu in the United States and pledged him his full-support, while Vice-President Kamala Harris refused to meet with the Israeli premier.
“I have instructed the Settlement Administration in the Ministry of Defense and the Civil Administration to begin comprehensive and professional groundwork to prepare the necessary infrastructure for the application of sovereignty. Going forward, I intend to lead a government decision stating that the Government of Israel will work with President Trump’s new administration and the international community to apply sovereignty and obtain American recognition.”
