Neptunes Videoslots had to work extra hard to beat Valletta Izibet in a hard fought encounter in the opening day of the Enemed Cup at the National Pool. Normally, one would expect Neptunes to win comfortably but some problems in defence appeared to offer opportunities for the Capital City side to make a contest out of the match.
It also appears that Neptunes are not abiding by a recent disciplinary decision by the ASA Disciplinary board to re-integrate player Dean Bugeja into the first team setup. His absence was clearly felt yesterday since the player is an important lynchpin in the defensive sector. He is also not being allowed to participate in all training sessions with his team mates according to sources within the club.
In other matches, San Giljan JP Projects comfortably beat Birzebbuฤกa 16-6. Sliema Frank Salt had an absolute romp, smashing Marsaskala Optima Projects by 25 to 0, a total and utter humiliation for the South Seasiders. Sirens Build Fitness also had a comfortable match, beating Exiles Wellbees 10-3.
Several have queried the format of the Enemed Cup which only includes 8 teams out of a possible 12. Otters, Ta’ Xbiex, Marsaxlokk and Barracudas have opted not to participate in this competition.
