Ukraine to use ATACMs inside Russia

Yesterday, US President Joe Biden issued permission for Ukraine to use its US-made ATACMs inside Russian territory to protect their positions in Kursk. The news followed reports that North Korea was to send up to 100,000 more troops in Russia in Kursk where North Korean troops are already fighting Ukrainian forces.

The  MGM-140 Army Army Tactical Missile System has a range of up to 300KM and can be fired from a HIMARS battery of which Ukraine has several.

Permission for the use of long-range weapons on Russian has been long sought by Ukraine and it is considered one of the greatest disadvantages it has against Russia which launches cruise missiles and drones against targets in Ukraine deep from Russian territory. The US administration previously refused to give such permission fearing “escalation”. France and the UK may follow suit by giving Ukraine similar permissions for the use of Storm Shadow missiles.

Yesterday morning, Russia launched over 200 missiles and drones at Ukrainian territory, primarily targeting civilian infrastructure, particularly power and energy facilities.

  1. Interesting turn of events. Who would have thought Biden would allow this after having to step down in the run up to the elections. Also interesting to see whether Stormshadow has the green light too. Also Russia have been warned it seems by Trump’s entourage not to escalate the war. Well, Saturday’s missile and drone bombardment didn’t really help.
