Notice regarding the renewal and transfer of arms

Important update on arms renewal and transfer procedures

The Police Force warns of a change in the documents that one must present when it comes to renewing the weapons license from January 2025:

For Collector’s License A and A Special one must present

1) The approval of the club as a collector of weapons;

2) Health Certification Form (Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form) which has not been issued more than two months since the licensed person goes to renew the license.

For Collector’s License B one must present

1) Health Certification Form (Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form) that has not been issued more than two months since the licensed person goes to renew the license.

For the Target Shooting License A and B one must present

1) The approval of the club as a member to shoot at targets;

2) Insurance policy for third party risks;

3) Health Certification Form (Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form) which has not been issued more than two months since the licensed person goes to renew the license.

For the Special A Target Shooting License one must present

1) The approval of the club as a member that shoots at targets and that one can actively practice or that is participating in shooting competitions as required by the regulations;

2) Insurance policy for third party risks;

3) Health Certification Form (Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form) which has not been issued more than two months since the licensed person goes to renew the license.

For Hunting Licenses one must present

1) Recommendation issued by an organisation established according to the law that represents the hunters;

2) Insurance policy for third party risks;

3) Health Certification Form (Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form) which has not been issued more than two months since the licensed person goes to renew the license.

The Police Force would also like to inform you that from 18 November 2024, the arms transfer service in Malta has been centralised with the aim of making this process more efficient and save for some exceptions, the transfer takes place at that very time.

These transfers will now all begin to be made from the Arms Office within the Police Headquarters, Floriana during the office’s opening hours: from Monday to Friday between 07:30am and 12 pm and between 12:30 pm and 02:15 pm.
