No official or public reckoning with Joseph Muscat’s crimes unless convicted in Court

After inquiring with members of the new Labour Party administration including the newly-elected executive, we were told that on Joseph Muscat and his crimes, there is consensus that the Labour Party will not condemn him or his legacy unless he is convicted in Court. This position has never been made official, but aligns with the party leader’s thoughts and sentiments, even after defending him when he was hauled to court in the Vitals case.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has adopted a complacent and corrupt strategy with regard to Joseph Muscat that has continued to further erode state institutions and is even holding back justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia. At this stage, this strategy is bafflingly ridiculous because the Labour Party is heading toward an irrecoverable loss in the polls, where it will be condemned to opposition with extreme ridicule and without the ability to ever take the high road on corruption and justice. The Labour Party is serving Joseph Muscat rather than the State, and the Party doesn’t want to change this course even as it heads to a defeat in the elections.

What a baffling disaster. Even the Prime Minister’s favorite consultant, his own father George Abela, is surely unhappy with his antics of appeasement toward Joseph Muscat’s criminal faction. If there is someone George Abela dislikes in Labour, it’s Jason Micallef, who has been given a token role to maintain the pretense that he is someone significant.

It’s so ridiculous that history seems to be repeating itself in a comical manner: Jason Micallef sabotaging the Labour Party with his narcissistic pretense of being its spokesperson.

You’re right about history repeating itself but wrong about the history being repeated. The Labour Party is banking on, much like statues of Lorry Sant were put up in 2013, putting up statues of Muscat. After all if any prosecution is sabotaged so thoroughly that nothing sticks other than a stench, even that stench will fade with time.
