Yesterday, Georgia’s parliament was inaugurated under a heavy police presence and mass protests in the capital city of Tbilisi. Opposition MPs boycotted the inauguration of Parliament after the incumbent-ruling Party falsified its election victory. Protests have been ongoing ever since. Only 88 MPs out of 159 members attended the parliament’s inauguration.
The President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili has condemned yesterday’s inauguration of parliament as unconstitutional and is challenging the ruling-government’s claims of its election victory in a constitutional court.
Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgia’s largest Russian-linked oligarchs is a Georgian Dream MP and was yesterday seen sitting in parliament between the incumbent Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and previous Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. Bidzina Ivanishvili is known as Georgia’s informal ruler. He originally founded Georgian Dream to fight against President Mikheil Saakashvili’s pro-European government after the Rose Revolution of 2003.
