Georgian Opposition presents up 20,000 files of evidence of electoral fraud: boycotts parliament

The Georgian Coalition for Change has presented up to 20,000 files of evidence of election fraud to the Central Election Commission that was committed by the incumbent ruling-party Georgian Dream. The ruling party in Georgia held onto power despite losing the election, amid widespread evidence that the results were rigged to secure their position in power.

The Opposition coalition has collected up to 82 pledges from Members of the Opposition to boycott the new Parliament and won’t be participating in it. Protests are being held in the capital Tbilisi demanding an election recount and the ruling-Party to resign.

The Georgian judiciary, known for siding with the ruling party and with some members under U.S. sanctions for violating the rule of law, has so far successfully blocked applications by the opposition to investigate electoral fraud. However, a dissident judge, Vladimer Khuchua, issued a contrasting opinion, concluding that voter secrecy was breached. Pro-government judges have challenged this opinion, stating that the Central Election Commission is not obligated to ensure voter secrecy.

The Central Election Commission has so far refused to look into the evidence of fraud that was submitted by the Opposition. Protests have been taking place in Tbilisi regularly.
