Big rewards for illegal appointments

The scandal about the fraudulent contract given to the wife of the Minister of Tourism is heating up with the Opposition announcing a protest calling on the Ministers responsible to resign. Amanda Muscat received a fraudulent €70,000 contract as a consultant from the Ministry of Gozo and Planning. Amanda Muscat is the wife of Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has publicly stated that he dismissed Amanda Muscat from her job implying he wasn’t aware of her irregular contract. He may have very well been unaware of the details of the contract, but he would surely have known about her appointment given that all political appointments are vetted and approved by the Office of the Prime Minister. The appointments were handled and managed by his Chief of Staff Glenn Micallef, who is now the European Commissioner for Youth and Culture.

Everyone is sorry, but probably none the wiser after being caught treating governance childishly and corruptly, as if it were a joke or a game.
