On Friday 29th November Rodney Gatt will be representing Malta in the 16th edition of the Prix des Rencontres Internationals du Trotteur Francais organized by the Societe du Trotteur Francais at Vincennes race track in Paris, France.
The French association keeps to its yearly commitment of calling in drivers and representatives from associated countries to participate in this year’s event. Apart from the usual European counterparts like Germany, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, The Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Ukraine, this year one notes also the presence of Algeria and China.
Rodney Gatt to ride 8 year old gelding Gowen Chaleonnais
The main event of the meet is undoubtedly the Prix des Rencontres Internationals du Trotteur Francais with horses driven by drivers hailing from the different countries invited. The race will be held on Friday night as the 7th on the card and can be seen live on the French tv station Equidia starting at 9:44 pm. As per tradition, this race is also a reclamer race and participating horses are on sale for offers over 18,000 euros in a blind bidding contest after the race. Rodney Gatt has been drawn to horse number 14, eight-year-old gelding Gowen Chaleonnais, trained by Ms. G. Masschaele for Belgian owner Ms. Marine Ver Hulst.
On the occasion of this gathering, the Societe du Trotteur Francais also organizes an award ceremony for all the best French Trotters in the associate countries. This year, Crack Money will be awarded Best French Trotter in Malta for the year 2023 after crowning a year with 10 victories and 2-second places in 12 starts. Owner Stephen Ciangura will be present for the awarding ceremony
Vice-Chairman Tony Demanuele representing the Malta Racing Club will also be attending the meeting to continue working on the relationship Malta fosters with the French counterpart. The strongest trotting association in Europe, the Societe du Trotteur Francais remains one of the main sponsors of trot racing in Malta.
