Earlier today, a Court decided that current Commissioner for Justice and Member of the Broadcasting Authority Alessandro Lia is to be charged with fraud.
The decision was taken over a Court challenge against the Police Commissioner brought by Magistrate Nadine Lia’s father, Victor Sant which accused Alessandro Lia of fraudulently profiting from the scrappage of Victor Sant’s car. The Court challenge was signed by lawyers Franco Debono and Edward Gatt.
Alessandro Lia is the son of one of Joseph Muscat’s lawyers, Pawlu Lia. Pawlu Lia also served as the lawyer of the Labour Party for a number of years. Alessandro Lia is also embroiled in a domestic violence case against his previous wife, Magistrate Nadine Lia.
The government hasn’t yet announced whether Alessandro Lia will keep his official roles.
