The 2024 Assikura Speed Race Final: A Thrilling Showdown Awaits

The 2024 Assikura Speed Race Final is set to captivate horse racing enthusiasts on Sunday, December 1, at the Malta Equidrome. With nine elite horses vying for the coveted sprint title, the stage is set for an electrifying race over a distance of 1,640 meters.

A Refined Format for Broader Appeal

Following feedback from last year’s inaugural edition, the event’s organizers have enhanced the competition’s format to boost its appeal. This year, three qualifying heats determined the nine finalists from the Premier and Gold Class categories. The starting positions for the final were drawn during a press conference held at the Tote earlier today.

Supporting Local Horse Racing

Andrew Grech, Managing Director of Assikura Insurance Brokers PCC Limited, highlighted the company’s commitment to the Maltese horse racing community.

“Our association with this community spans over 17 years. The Assikura Speed Race, alongside the annual Assikura Championship, underscores our strong relationship with the Malta Equidrome, the Malta Racing Club, and EquestriMalta,” Grech stated.

“The changes introduced this year have been well received by horse owners, drivers, and racing fans, promising an exciting and clean final on Sunday. We wish all participants the best of luck.”

Collaboration and Gratitude

Dr. Matthew Brincat of Malta Equidrome expressed gratitude for Assikura’s longstanding support, not only financially but also through their insurance services that benefit the sport.

Tony Demanuele, Vice-Chair of the Malta Racing Club, emphasized the significance of such unique competitions and wished the owners a positive race. Max Zammit, CEO of EquestriMalta, praised the collaborative efforts of all entities involved in enhancing the horse racing calendar and wished participants success in the final.

Increased Prize Fund

The prize fund for the 2024 Assikura Speed Race has been boosted significantly:

  • Winner: โ‚ฌ3,000
  • Second Place: โ‚ฌ1,200
  • Third Place: โ‚ฌ600
  • Fourth Place: โ‚ฌ300
    Each heat carried a prize of โ‚ฌ1,200, further enhancing the competition’s appeal.

Race Day Details

The much-anticipated final is scheduled to start at 3:50 PM on Sunday, December 1, at the Malta Equidrome.
