Kurdish forces take over Kurdish neighbourhood in Aleppo: Syrian rebels ask them to leave

The Kurds controlling the northeast of Syria are not welcoming the Syrian rebellion that started this week and are accusing the rebels of being Turkish Islamist proxies that extend and and fight for Turkish interests.

Kurdish troops from the Syrian Defense Forces arrived yesterday evening in the north of Aleppo to provide security for Kurdish residents, namely in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighbourhoods. However, the main Sunni-rebel group in the offensive, Tahrir al-Sham or HST has demanded the Kurdish forces to leave the city.

The concerns of the Kurds are further heightened by the presence of radical Islamist elements, such as ISIS, within the rebels’ ranks. Footage and evidence emerging show Islamic jihadists fighting alongside the Free Syrian Army and the HST.

Earlier this week, Turkish rebels in the northeast of Syria started a major offensive against the Syrian Army and have successfully captured Aleppo in a couple of days.
