Speaking at an event in Istanbul on Friday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that voluntary returns of Syrian refugees to Aleppo will increase. Turkey hosts up to 4 million Syrian refugees, with two million of them coming from Aleppo. Aleppo was besieged and conquered by the Syrian Army aided by Russian airstrikes and Hezbollah militants in 2016. Millions of residents left the city throughout the war.
Meanwhile, footage of Syrians returning to their homes in Aleppo has also been published. Prisoners in Aleppo are also being set free with many of them claiming to be refugees who were imprisoned for returning to their homes. Many young girls and women have also been freed from prisons in Aleppo.
Aleppo has been conquered from the Syrian government by Syrian rebels.
