Trump loyalist who wants to clamp down on journalists to be made FBI Director

US President-elect Donald Trump is nominating his ardent loyalist Kash Patel for FBI Director. Kash Patel worked in several roles during President Trump’s previous administration including as a National Security Council official and an advisor to the Acting Director of National Intelligence. He was also accused of being an irregular back-channel to Ukraine for President Trump, an accusation that he denies. President Trump also wanted to appoint him as a deputy for CIA Director Gina Haspel, a request she refused and denied.

Kash Patel also wants harsher laws against journalists and a clampdown against insubordinate government officials. He is expected to use the FBI to align with President Trump’s personal and political interests.
