Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan says that he hopes Syrian rebels arrive to Damascus

In an interview with Turkish media Canli 24, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said that he hoped the Syrian rebels arrive to Homs and Damascus without any problems. He also added that he asked Bashar al-Assad to together decide the future of Syria but did not receive a positive response.

Turkey is currently occupying border areas in northern Syria which were previously controlled by the Kurdish forces and is waging its own attacks and bombings on north Syria aimed at the Kurds and their military organisations. Turkey also has its own Turkish-backed militant groups in northern Syria such as the Syrian National Army. The Syrian National Army has clashed against Kurdish forces over territorial gains as the rebel offensive progressed.

The Syrian rebel offensive, called “Deterrence of Aggression”, is being mainly lead by Tahrir al-Sham and its commander Abu Mohammad al-Julani. Syrian rebels have captured Hama and are now fighting for Homs, which is the last major city before the road to Damascus.
