The Malta Union of Teachers has declared just another industrial dispute this time over the Institute of Tourism Studies. The union is claiming that the Ministry has intentionally broke down talks to avoid meeting the demands of the union. The Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo has just resigned with negotiations having been abandoned altogether. The new Minister for Tourism is Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg.
The MUT is currently also involved in an another industrial dispute over MCAST after MCAST Principal declared an industrial dispute against the Malta Union of Teachers on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
Talks over the MCAST collective agreement between the Ministry of Education and MUT have broken down again and the Minister of Education Clifton Grima is demanding the union to drop their industrial action to continue negotiations. The MUT will not drop their industrial action, so the dispute will remain unresolved and students will not get their pass marks as a result. Students have also been protesting this situation in solidarity with their lecturers.
