Ex-Police Officer Raymond Aquilina and Yorgen Fenech to be charged with money-laundering in the coming days

Raymond Aquilina, a previous police officer who worked at the Economic Crimes Unit, is to be charged with money laundering along with Yorgen Fenech. Raymond Aquilina is suspected of having leaked information over the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia to Yorgen Fenech. In exchange for this information, Yorgen Fenech paid Raymond Aquilina with an apartment in Birลผebbuฤกa. the apartment was originally sold to his parents who then gifted the apartment to their son. The apartment was bought by Ray Aquilina’s parents for just โ‚ฌ60,000. The notary involved in the deal will also be charged.

The police have also concluded their investigation over the leaks and will be charging people over the case including ex-Premier Joseph Muscat’s previous Chief of Staff Keith Schembri. The investigations were prompted by text messages that were recovered from Yorgen Fenech’s mobile phone. Other police officers suspected of leaking information are previous Deputy-Police Commissioner Silvio Valletta and ex-Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Abdillaย who is suspected of relaying information to Keith Schembri.

The case will start on the 15th of this month.
