As already announced by The Maltese Herald some days ago, former Labour MP Jean Claude Micallef has been appointed as the new CEO of the Authority for Integrity for Maltese Sport (AIMS).
Micallef has been appointed after the acrimonious departure of the authority’s previous CEO Luciano Busuttil. The former Labour MP and Sport Malta chairman left under a cloud, after alleged disagreements with the AIMS board chaired by retired judge, Dr Antonio Mizzi.
Sources who spoke to the Maltese Herald said that the board includes persons who have conflicts of interest and who may not see eye to eye with Micallef who is known as a doer. The authority has also been quite slow over the past three years with Busuttil having complained of the board interfering in his work.
Other media also incorrectly reported that Judge Mizzi was newly appointed as Chairman when he has in fact been heading the board for the last three years.
