Multiple government jobs to pay multiple personal debts

Former Labour MP Jean Claude Micallef who has just been appointed CEO of the Authority for the Integrity of Maltese Sports isn’t new to government iced buns. Jean Claude Micallef is also board member of Festivals Malta and has a PR contract with Gozo channel. He took on various debts to fund his political campaign which he was confident would yield results, but is now having the government to bail-him out (taxpayers).

As this website reported earlier, Jean Claude’s Micallef appointment at AIMS was opposed by Sports and Education Minister Clifton Grima, and some have protested at the fact that the role is being tarnished with subsequent political appointments: Jean Claude Micallef succeeds previous Labour MP Luciano Busuttil.

Meanwhile, Jean Claude Micallef has already made himself comfortable in his new role, and is speaking to people as if he is running a Ministry whilst sending for people asking them to work for him. He also intends to use his new appointment as a platform for his new political campaign.

Maltese sports is rife with political appointments, and this culture of political nepotism is hindering its progress by sidelining genuine, specialised professionals.
