Russia launched a large-scale cruise missile attack on Ukraine and its energy infrastructure after the US President-elect Donald Trump gave comments to Time Magazine saying that he opposes the use of US-made long-range missiles by Ukraine against targets in Russia. Time Magazine has awarded President Trump the title of “Person of the Year”.
Russia is gradually pushing deeper into Ukrainian territory from various fronts whilst persisting with its attacks on critical civilian infrastructure including hospitals. However, its arsenal of heavy military equipment is drying up as it lacks tanks and artillery shells. The Russian economy is also facing a severe challenges with soaring inflation rates and a currency crisis. Russia is losing more than 1000 soldiers per day along with military equipment. Since its invasion of Ukraine, Russia lost more than 760,000 troops and more than 2 million wounded. Ukraine lost up to 43,000 troops in the battlefield while more than 12,000 civilians have been killed.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media have reported that whilst in Paris, President Trump told President Emmanuel Macron and President Volodymyr Zelensky that he wants a ceasefire with the involvement of European troops in Ukraine.
