The head of the Italian Intelligence Services, General Giovanni Caravelli called his Syrian counterparts on December 5th to tell them that Italy stands in support with the Syrian government during this difficult time. The call was reported in a report prepared by the Syrian head of the General Security Branch Hussam Luqa that was sent to the Syrian dictator himself, Bashar al-Assad. General Giovanni Caravelli gave his government’s support to the Syrian government, after jets bombed an Italian hospital in Aleppo.
The document was discovered by journalists of Independent Arabia who entered the abandoned office of the head of the Syrian General Intelligence.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was in discussions with the Syrian government to normalise ties despite a looming ย rebel offensive against the government and civil war. The aim of the Italian government was to send back Syrian immigrants from Italy to Syria where they could have faced persecution and retribution. Mass graves are currently being unearthed of tens of thousands of political prisoners that have been killed in Assad’s prisons. Among others who were normalising ties with Bashar al-Assad included Arab governments, and the Arab league and the United Nations.
Italy currently hosts around 300,000 illegal immigrants with only 10,000 of them being Syrian.
