Many prisoners freed from Sednaya prison are unable to talk having been brutalised with beatings and torture during their captivity. Soe have missing body parts while other prisoners have been kept so isolated that they are unaware Hafez al-Assad and Saddam Hussein are no longer alive. Many children born in Syrian prisons have nowhere to go and some have been born to prisoners who were raped by their guards.
Untold stories of horror and torture keep coming out depicting the brutal methods the Syrian regime used to destroy the spirit and will of the prisoners with many of them having been raped or forced to rape each other. The Sednaya prison also had a crematorium and acid baths. Syrian activist Mazen Hamada was found dead in Sednaya prison thought to have been killed shortly after the liberation of Damascus so that he would never tell what happened to him and to other prisoners.
