No resolution for the war in Ukraine but Russia’s war effort is losing steam

There is yet no diplomatic resolution for the Russian war in Ukraine with President Donald Trump implying that Ukraine has to give up land it has lost in a latest press conference. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would be ready to temporally cede land to Russia in exchange for NATO membership, but US President-elect Donald Trump opposed Ukrainian NATO membership.

In Paris, President Trump proposed French President Emmanuel Macron to deploy troops in Ukraine to guard the border for a potential peace deal. Incumbent German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is campaigning for a second term has claimed that his party will promise not to give long-range German missiles to Ukraine if elected into office, however this is also the current position of the German government.

The US has provided Ukraine with a $20 billion loan that is to be repaid with seized Russian assets, however, the prospect for future weapons supplies to Ukraine by both the US and Europe looks dim. At the same time, Russia is losing steam in the battlefield with its resources stretched thin in order to keep advancing into the Donetsk region. Waves of North Korean soldiers in Kursk are being eliminated by Ukrainian forces on a daily basis, while Russia is in short supply of tanks, vehicles and artillery shells. More than 1000 Russian soldiers are being killed and wounded every day.

Russia’s economy is also facing a crisis with a shortage of labour, soaring inflation rates, and a rapidly depreciating currency.
