Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t give a timeline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces in Syria and said that the forces will remain in Syria until “a new security arrangement” is found as he visited the occupied region of Mount Hermon in Syria. Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa (Jolani) is demanding the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Mount Hermon and the recently occupied areas, pledging that Syria won’t be used to attack Israel.
Israel invaded and occupied Mount Hermon and the surrounding villages in Syria following the fall of the regime in Bashar al-Assad. It also conducted more than one hundred airstrikes targeting heavy weaponry which fell on the hands of the rebels following the fall of the regime. Meanwhile, the Israeli government is also encouraging its citizens to settle in the Golan heights. The Syrian regime officially handed over the Golan Heights to Israel in 1974 following its defeat in the Yom Kippur War.
