Yesterday night, the Syrian Army began a military operation in the Suwayda province to recapture the province from Druze separatist militias supported by Israel. As the army engaged Druze militias, the IDF conducted a series of airstrikes against the army causing heavy casualties.
The Syrian Army entered the city centre of Suwayda earlier today but separatists militias are still fighting and holding back the army in several parts of the city.
Syrian army officials said that the IDF airstrikes are unsustainable and are causing too many casualties. Israel is currently arming and supporting Druze separatists in the south of Syria after it invaded Syria from the Golan Heights in last December. The Al-Quneitra Governate is still occupied by the IDF.
The Syrian government has repeatedly stated that it won’t allow break-away states or federalism and all military groups have to be integrated with the official Syrian Arab Army. The Syrian government also considers Israel’s occupation of Syria as illegal.
According to Ashraq News, Israeli Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli has called for the elimination of Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara.
