Israel gets its way in the Suwayda Governate as the Syrian Army withdrew from the Suwayda Governate following a ceasefire brokered by the US and Turkey. The Syrian Army entered the Suwayda Governate earlier this week to quell Druze separatist militia factions who are fighting for secession. The separatist militants were backed and armed by Israel and Israel also provided direct air-support to the separatist militias.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel’s terms have been accepted and these include no military forces south of Damascus. Israel has invaded Syria and occupied the Quneitra Governate last December.
Clashes in the Suwayda Governate are ongoing as Druze separatist militias clash with Arab Bedouins. There are also reports of Sunni Arabs being displaced from the Suwayda countryside and criminal acts committed by both sides, including extrajudicial killings. However, avenge killings by Druze separatists are increasingly being reported following the withdrawal of the Syrian army.
