Israel launches wide-scale aerial bombing campaign of Syria

Israel has launched a wide-scale aerial-bombing campaign against Syria after sectarian tensions between Muslisms and the Druze community unraveled into several clashes earlier this week. The campaign also comes after Syria announced it won’t be joining the Abraham Accords. Israeli jets flew as far as Hama and Homs during yesterday night.

Israel began an illegal invasion of Syria in the December of last year and expanded its occupation of Syrian territory in the Al-Quneitra Governate earlier this year on the pretenses of protecting the Druze community. Since its invasion, Israel has been stoking secretion tensions in Syria with the aim of taking control of the Druze minority areas in the Daraa and Suweyda regions.

Israel’s intense bombing campaign on Syria started on Wednesday, escalating in Thursday night with Israeli jets dropping bombs next to the Syrian Presidential Palace as a warning to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Its airstrikes against Syrian military sites are becoming more frequent and Turkish military aid seems to have not deterred Israeli aggression.

Sectarian clashes between Muslims and the Druze community began earlier this week after a Druze armed group ambushed five Syrian security officers in Jaramana.ย The Druze community is divided with some factions favouring secession from Syria while many others want to remain part of Syria. The Druze armed factions are clashing with the Syrian official forces after refusing to lay down their weapons. Unverified reports are also stating that the Druze communities are being armed by Israel (footage below).

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is on a campaign to convince armed groups to lay down their weapons and join the official Syrian Army. President al-Sharaa also met with previous socialist and Druze leader, Walid Jumblatt on Thursday as sectarian clashes unfolded.

Dozens of Syrians have reportedly been killed by the Israeli airstrikes including 4 Druze individuals near the city of Suwayda.
