Pro-Assad Lebanese politician says they are supporting and organising Druze separatist militants in Suwayda

A pro-Assad politician from Lebanon who is also part of the Druze community, Wiam Wahhab, stated on Al-Jadeed TV that he is backing, organising and arming Druze separatist militants in Suwayda, Syria and called for a new entity separate from the Syrian state. He also said that President Ahmed al-Sharaa (referring to him as Jolani) has taken a defeat in Suwayda.

Syrian security forces have re-entered the Governate of Suwayda to restore order. Armed Bedouin tribes stormed the city of Suwayda after the Syrian Army was forced to retreat due to a series of Israeli airstrikes. The Bedouin invasion compelled Israel to accept new terms brokered by Turkey and the United States to allow the Syrian security forces to once again enter the Suwayda Governate and restore order.ย A ceasefire between armed militant factions was also imposed by the government but Druze separatist militants are refusing to give up their weapons and their control over the city and clashes are still ongoing at this moment. Israeli military helicopters were also spotted landing in the city of Suwayda earleir today.

Israel has armed and backed the separatist Druze militant factions to start a war against the Syrian state. That pro-Assad factions are also supplying and backing separatist militants in Suwayda is also no surprise. Pro-Assad factions had previously also started a rebellion in Latakia which was quelled by the government. Following the collapse of their rebellion in Latakia, pro-Assadist military cells kept threatening the Syrian state and committed various acts of vandalism and sabotage including recent wild fires in the grasslands and woods of Latakia.

The efforts of the pro-Assad factions to fragment Syria into separate zones or entities align with Israelโ€™s strategic interests, resulting in the emergence of a highly unusual unholy alliance between the two.
