The Nationalist Party has replied to a statement by the Labour Party by declaring its full support behind its representative to the Permanent Commission Against Corruption, ex-Police Commissioner John Rizzo. John Rizzo’s son, Kurt Rizzo is being investigated in an extensive and ongoing investigation about polcie leaks to drug traffickers.
The Labour Party issued a statement questioning the Nationalist Party’s position over its appointee to the Commission against Corruption after news broke out about the Police investigation of John Rizzo’s son. The Labour Party often harshly criticises journalists for referencing the relatives of its politicians.
The statement by the Nationalist Party can be read below.
Statement by the Partit Nazzjonalista
The Partit Nazzjonalista has full confidence in John Rizzo
The Partit Nazzjonalista expresses its full confidence in John Rizzo and trusts the decisions he makes, including in the present circumstances. The history of our country shows that John Rizzo is a person of unwavering integrity and the highest honesty. John Rizzo has been, and remains, a man of strong character who performs his duties impartially.
It is scandalous that, after being removed from his role as Police Commissioner just a few weeks after the March 2013 election, the Labour Party and its leadership continue to launch highly personal and malicious attacks against John Rizzo.
Only those who do not believe in justice and refuse to fight corruption would attack John Rizzo in the manner the Labour Party is doing.
