In his Christmas message from Hospice Malta, Archbishop Charles Scicluna reflected on the value of life and hope. Speaking from the historic Cini Institute, today the seat of Hospice Malta, he spoke about the transformation of this 19th-century haven for women into a haven of care for those reaching the end of their lives.
The Archbishop highlighted Christmas as a time of life’s journey and eternity, and called the Maltese and Gozitans to a “culture of hope.” He spoke about Malta’s birthrate, which is at an all-time low, and therefor the need to create a society that provides the necessary space for families to welcome new life with openness.
He also praised adoption, fostering, and palliative care as being very important for the dignity of life. He looked forward to the 2025 Jubilee of Hope and reiterated Pope Francis’ call for a “great feast of mercy,” calling for solidarity and compassion in the New Year.
Archbishop Scicluna concluded with warm Christmas blessings, appealing to all to preserve and enrich the values which Malta stands for and passes on to future generations.
