Updated 2 Jan 1330CET

The Police and the Armed Forces of Malta are still conducting a search for two passengers who escaped from an airplane that made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport.

Earlier yesterday two passengers were arrested but two more are still apparently on the run.

The police were informed that a Turkish Airlines plane, the national airline, requested an emergency landing due to a Moroccan passenger reporting a medical emergency. The plane was en route to Marrakech in Morocco.

The plane performed the emergency landing, during which the assistance of the Armed Forces of Malta was not requested. While on the runway, some individuals onboard the plane managed to escape by jumping off.

One of the individuals has been arrested, and a search operation is currently underway at the airport and surrounding areas by police and soldiers to apprehend those who are still on the run.

This news portal is informed that the aircraft continued its flight later. The individual who fell ill is currently in custody.
