Prime Minister Robert Abela began his end of year message by highlighting Malta’s history of decolonisation and independence, concluding his discourse about Malta’s history by saying that Malta is a small country with a great people. The video production featured singer Ira Losco singing the national anthem.
The Prime Minister appealed for national unity before turning to governing policy, saying that the government will work to bring tourists of a higher quality, and will not allow economic development at the expense of the environment. He also reiterated about the government’s tax decreases which were previously announced in the budget, and added that the government is working to cut down waiting lists in the national health service.
Ironically, the Prime Minister also stated that Malta’s architecture is a reflection of its history. If this statement is taken literally and applied over the past ten years, the history surely looks muddled, bland and at times very ugly.
