Four lions and a panther found abandoned in a farm in Naxxar

Four lions and a panther have been found abandoned in a farm in Trejqet l-Irziezet, Naxxar. The identity of the owner of the lions is still being established and we need a confirmation to verify his identity.

Police and animal Welfare officers arrived at the site yesterday and found the animals in a state of abandonment and visibly undernourished. The wild cats had been neglected for some time, leading the lions to eat one of their pack members last summer due to extreme hunger. Animal Welfare officers are now feeding the wild cats and the police are monitoring the site until the animals are relocated.

The Labour government has liberalised the ownership of dangerous and wild animals causing as a result an increase in these kind of cases of animal abuse. A substantial amount of meat if also being imported to sustain wild cats in private residences.

I mean honestly why was the importation of species not suited to our rock even allowed! So we ban circuses with animals, a good thing, but then allow this cruelty. Let’s stop trying to keep ‘some ‘ people happy but so what’s right. We need maturity in leadership
