The Maltese Herald has received information from a source in the government that the Prime Minister has been holding talks with the Attorney General. Prime Minister Robert Abela and Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg were in contact through the Justice Minister, but they also seem to be in direct contact.
That the Prime Minister would be overstepping his boundaries if he is in talks with the prosecutor given that the prosecutor is supposedly an independent institution that should not look after the interests of the government, unlike the State Advocate. The Prime Minister once admitted to be in discussions with a Magistrate on the issue of lenient sentences to criminals.
We did not reach out to the Prime Minister to confirm this story. However, we confirmed that the Office of the Prime Minister was also informed about the submission of the 17 Black Magisterial Inquiry to the Office of the Attorney General well before the story broke out in the press.
