Italian journalist Cecilia Sala freed from Iran; Back home after diplomatic efforts

A plane carrying Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has departed from Tehran en route to Italy. Her release follows long diplomatic and intelligence negotiations. News of her liberation was confirmed through a statement released by Palazzo Chigi. She had been detained by the Iranian authorities since 19th December 2024 at Evin Prison.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanked everyone who, thanks to their help, made it possible to free Sala and immediately reunite her with her family and colleagues.
