European Parliament President in Davos says EU will cut bureaucracy and regulation: EU Commissioner announces Savings Union

Yesterday, in Davos at the World Economic Forum, the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that the European Union will be working to strive to cut down bureaucracy and regulations for European businesses in the coming years. The President of the European Parliament held a meeting with European tech investors and also met with Coca Cola’s CEO James Quincey while in Davos.ย 

On the same lines, the European Commissioner President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the Commission will publish the first directive for the European Savings Union which will harmonise regulations for financing and risk-capital across Europe.

The European Commissioner President admitted that Europe is not keeping up with international “geostrategic competition” and referred to international competition in raw materials, technology, space, the Arctic and the South China Sea. The Commissioner President admitted that European undersea cables are being deliberately targeted by Russia and that the “cooperative global model” is over. She emphasised on the importance of raising productivity and competitiveness.
