President Donald Trump wants Ukraine’s rare earth minerals: but still wants Ukraine to capitulate

US President Donald Trump announced that he wants a guarantee over Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for more aid, but he also said that his administration is communicating with the Russian government about imposing a peace deal on Ukraine. President Trump is implying that he wants Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for weaponry and aid to Ukraine after Ukraine capitulates and cedes the territories it lost to Russia.

So far, President Trump has not blocked weapons deliveries to Ukraine, but these deliveries were already been approved by Congress.

Upon this announcement, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky told the foreign press that negotiations about Ukraine without Ukraine’s involvement are dangerous and said that his government needs to work more on this issue. Ukraine’s current position on the war is aimed at victory on the battlefield, but this position goes contrary to President Trump’s plan to bring a quick end to the war by forcing Ukraine to cede its territories and relinquish its request to join NATO.
