Employers’ and lawyers’ associations oppose the Government’s reforms on Magisterial Inquiries: civil society lawyers plan a Constitutional case

The Mata Employers’ Association and the Chamber of Lawyers have both released statements they are against the government’s reforms on Magisterial Inquiries. Both the organisations condemned the government’s over-reach over the Judiciary’s independence. Our story of today is also related with the Deputy-Prime Minister Ian Borg having once made a statement at the Party’s Conference in favour of the Judiciary’s independence.

Meanwhile, civil society lawyers and activists plan to challenge the government’s reforms through a constitutional case, with various lawyers working independently on the upcoming legal challenge. Clearly and surely this won’t be the end of this issue and the Prime Minister is deluding himself if he thinks that it won’t stick with him in the next general election campaign.
