French President Emmanuel Macron calls on SDF to join the Syrian Army

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was not present at the Paris Conference on Syria, but Syrian Foreign Affairs Minister Asaad al-Shaibani was present along with some of his European and Arab counterparts. Another conference to be held

In a statement published by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of the conference, it was stated that foreign ministers agreed to work on further humanitarian aid for Syria and the lifting of sanctions. However, no new measures regarding sanctions were announced.

At the end of the conference, French President Emmanuel Macron praised the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) but encouraged them to integrate themselves with the Syrian Army. The surprise announcement comes after a series of statements France made in support of the Kurds in the north-east of Syria. The SDF is currently refusing to join the ranks of the newly formed Syrian Army and is also unwilling to relinquish its governing autonomy over its territories.
