UPDATED: Some members and delegates of the MUT are protesting against the MUT’s leadership over the proposal of suspending industrial action, and they are saying that their conditions won’t improve with timetable changes and that they want commitments from the government for salary increases.
The Malta Union of Teachers is holding a meeting later on today to discuss its ongoing negotiations with the government over the MCAST lecturers’ Collective Agreement.ย The government is proposing to improve working conditions by changing time-tables and adding special leave, but has made no commitments about salary increases, yet.
The government is insisting that for negotiations about salary increases to take place, the Malta Union of Teachers has to suspend its industrial action. MCAST lecturers began industrial action last December after the MCAST Administration declared an industrial dispute.
The Maltese Herald has confirmed with its sources that the Malta Union of Teachers is discussing plans to suspend its industrial action so as to proceed with financial discussions with the government.
