Since I have the attention of the Prime Minister, while he dines with suspected criminals and turns our institutions into Labour’s criminal estate, I hope to bring to his attention the important point that the reading room of the National Library should not be turned into an events space.
Under the latest administration, the National Library has been turned into an events space and researchers have to file an application before doing research in the reading room. These measures have been imposed when historiographic research at the National Library is at an all time-low. The educational and school projects don’t really count.
The National Library should be working to provide greater access and comfort for researchers to increase their research productivity, but under this administration, researchers are being burdened with even more paperwork and bureaucracy while the reading room has been turned into an events space.
