Qala Saints player Manwel Xerri and Zebbug Rovers goalkeeper Leonard Camilleri were both suspended for life by the Malta Football Association Disciplinary board.
Qala Saints were found not guilty by the board and were cleared. The Maltese Herald has covered this case extensively and was the first to report that a decision was imminent.
The case revolves around the attempt to bribe a Nadur Youngsters player last season. A government job was also allegedly offered.
This is the decision regarding Xerri and Qala Saints.
“To declare, strictly on the basis of a balance of probabilities, Mr Xerri guilty of the corrupt act or practice perpetrated by the same Mr Xerri, inter alia in terms of Article 2 and Article 3 of the Regulations; To suspend Mr Xerri for life, in terms of Article 6 (ii) (a) of the Regulations, save what is stated under Article 6(ii)(b). To declare the Club not guilty of all the charges adduced against it.”
This is the decision regarding Leonard Camilleri.
To declare, strictly on the basis of a balance of probabilities, Mr Camilleri guilty of the corrupt act or practice, inter alia in terms of Article 2 and Article 3 of the Regulations: To suspend Mr Camilleri for life, in terms of Article 6(ii)(a) of the Regulations, save what is stated under Article 6(ii)(b)”.
These decisions were also communicated to the Gozo Football Association. A criminal case is currently ongoing in court.
