Rifles, grenades, cash and connections with Russian military: Calin Georgescu blames a Bolshevik conspiracy

Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, who was yesterday arrested in an investigation over Russian electoral interference, is blaming the arrest on a Bolshevik conspiracy. According to G4Media, which is covering the case extensively, the Romanian authorities raided 47 properties of 27 individuals hailing from 5 different countries. Rifles, grenades and stacks of cash were among the items found in the properties of Geogescu’s close associates.

His bodyguard was caught with up to $10 million of cash hidden under his floorboards and flights to Moscow. Georgescu’s bodyguard Horatiu Potra, was also caught meeting with Wagner mercenaries in Russia. Other associates of Georgescu such Marin Burcea and Dorina Mihai were caught meeting with Chechen soldiers from Ramzan Kadyrov’s entourage. The Prosecutor also has an  undisclosed amount of wire taps which uncover Georgescu’s dealings with the Russians including with Colonel Evgheni Ignatiev, the deputy military attaché at the Russian Embassy in Bucharest.

Georgescu has been freed from arrest, but will remain under Judicial supervision and the Prosecutor’s investigation is to continue. He is also not allowed to make statements on social media or to the press.
