Two persons who were charged last night with a drug heist from the AFM Safi compound have what can be described as a colourful criminal record, The Maltese Herald can reveal.
Yousef Essesi

Yousef Essousi, 33 from St Paul’s Bay served time in prison for a robbery of jewellery and cash from a house in Gzira in 2014.
In 2015 he was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment on this charge as well as having breached several bail decrees on other charges.
During his time in prison, he was responsible for scores of offences including torching a cell as well as attempting to swallow razor blades.
He was recently arrested for the importation of 1kg of cannabis over the Internet but was not yet charged.
Essesi describes himself as a self-employed tattoo artist and regularly flaunts photos on social media with expensive luxury cars as well as designer clothing.
Essesi received a lot of publicity when under Colonel Alex Dalli’s prison tenure, he was denied marriage to his then-girlfriend Meliza Muscat. The couple had also won a court case against Dalli but described the compensation as ridiculous.
Carlos Pace
Carlos Pace, 23 from Marsa was handed a two year suspended sentence as well as a probation order in March 2023 for his role in a heist from a tobacco warehouse. He was the first to be identified from CCTV cameras in that heist although his role was relatively minor.
The robbery was carried out in October 2022 and January 2023 from a warehouse in Mriehel. Pace and Daniel Vella from Zejtun admitted their guilt with Pace receiving a two-year supervision order. Vella was conditionally discharged for one year.
He is presently employed as a taxi driver whilst in 2023 he was declared unemployed.
Liam Steward, 23 from Pieta was the fifth person charged earlier today in connection with the Safi heist.
