According to the latest Eurostat figures, in 2022 up to 86% of Maltese service exports were by small businesses. Malta’s small service exporters come first among EU-member states in their share of their country’s total service exports. Estonia followed Malta with 59% and Luxembourg with 49%. Maltese service exporters include financial services practitioners and the tourism industry which cater for foreigners.
Malta goes against the trend with most EU-member states having service exports mostly done by large enterprises. Large enterprises have the largest share of service-exports in Finland with 74% of the share, Germany with 72% and Slovakia with 70%.
